POLICE continue to investigate the disappearance of a man from Cheltenham more than 40 years ago. Peter Christofidis was last seen on Cameron Street in Cheltenham on 14 March, 1983. Last week police issued a renewed appeal for information about his disappearance. Christofidis was 28-years-old at the time of his disappearance. His Volkswagen Beetle was found abandoned on Calder Highway near Ouyen a few days after he was last seen, but he was never located. FIREWOOD buyers and providers on the Mornington Peninsula are being reminded to source responsibly sourced wood, understand the rules of firewood collection and stay out of parks and reserves. As the cool weather approaches and residents stock up on firewood, the Conservation Regulator is urging people to help save wildlife habitat and protect Aboriginal scarred trees. The illegal removal and sale of firewood from parks and reserves causes lasting impacts, and can decimate the homes of the many birds, reptiles as native mammals that rely on hollows in standing and dead and fallen trees. FRANKSTON’S all-abilities basketball team has begun their 2023 season. Thirty players play on the Frankston District Basketball Association side. FDBA CEO Wayne Holdsworth said he was happy to see the season begin. “I remember the beginning of the all-abilities competition with young Lachie, who would watch his brother play and wanted an opportunity to also play basketball. A FRANKSTON South amateur photographer is one of 12 people in the running for the top prize in the Perspectives of the Inner West photography competition. IT infrastructure specialist Tim Matthews was selected from a pool of 1000 photo entries. He is in contention to win the $5000 top prize. Matthews submitted a photo of his son playing in puddles (pictured above). The 12 images chosen as the best, including Matthews’, will be displayed at an exhibition in Yarraville later this month.
