MT ELIZA resident Bob Greaves received a Council of the Ageing Senior Achiever Award at a ceremony at Government House last week. He was one of eight recipients of the award presented as during the 2016 Victorian Seniors Festival. It offers more than 1300 free and low-cost events all over Victoria, including a great array of social, cultural, educational and body-and-soul activities. Other local award recipients were Vishnu Prasad, of Skye: Promotion of Multiculturalism Award, and Verna Phillips, of Carrum Downs: Veteran Community Award. THE driver of a train approaching Parkdale station kept going rather than stop when he spied a swarm of wasps buzzing around the platform, Thursday morning. Metro spokesperson Sammie Back said the driver noticed a “considerable number” of the stinging insects at the station at 10.50am and, after consulting the company, was told to run express. She said there were no passengers waiting on the platform and those on the train who missed their stop were offered buses back. The wasps hung around for about an hour before dispersing. Normal services resumed later.
Southern Metro Crime Team detectives have released images of two men they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries following a car theft and carjacking in Cheltenham on Monday. A silver Toyota Hilux ute was stolen from Dingley Village early on Monday morning (3 October). Investigators later discovered the stolen ute drove to a petrol station on Dandenong-Hastings Road near Bayliss Road in Lyndhurst about 8am. The car filled up and drove off without paying. The ute was then driven to a shopping centre carpark on Nepean Highway in Cheltenham about 1.30pm. The three occupants dumped the ute…
A POLICE raid on a business address at Carrum Downs last week unearthed drugs, guns, ammunition, large quantity of cash – and even a pill press. Detective Senior Constable Chris Sweet, of Frankston CIU, said the eight guns seized at the Hall Rd premises included a variety of rifles and handguns. The drugs included large quantities of ice, ecstasy, a variety of pills and prescription drugs. Detectives executed the warrant on Thursday afternoon 29 September. A Carrum Downs man, 26, was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last Thursday and further remanded to reappear on 20 December.
