THE Mentone-Mordialloc Art Group will host its first art exhibition in its new digs at the Mentone Activity Hub this month. The ‘Artists in Classes’ exhibition will feature art work by group members who attended classes or short courses this year. The art group moved into its new studio location in April after leaving its dilapidated Old Granary Lane building in Mentone. Traditional and modern works will be available for sale at the exhibition open daily Thursday 15-Saturday 24 September, 10am-4pm and until 6pm Fridays. FRANKSTON detectives are investigating a theft in Skye in which a credit card and passport were stolen from a car parked on Darnley Drive, Friday 3 June. The card was used at a supermarket on Fitzroy St, St Kilda, 5.55pm, Monday 6 June. Detectives believe the victim’s passport has also been used a number of times to make unauthorised credit card applications. STUDENTS at six secondary colleges around Frankston and on the Mornington Peninsula are among 70,000 being given access to doctors and health care while at school. Carrum Downs, McClelland, Monterey, Mornington, Patterson River and Rosebud secondary colleges are among 100 schools in the first Doctors in Secondary Schools Program. Doctors will be at the colleges for up to one day a week, with students able to get referrals to specialists for help before it affects their studies. FRANKSTON ranked eighth of Victoria’s 79 local council areas for animal cruelty, according to a list of hotspots released by RSPCA Victoria. Of the 11,840 cruelty reports across the state in 2015-16, 366 involved the welfare of animals on the peninsula. THE new cable car ride at Arthurs Seat has been officially named Eagle. Known as Skylift throughout relatively short but controversial history, the gondola ride to and from the summit is set to begin carrying passengers in early December. The name Eagle was announced at a “brand launch” on Monday, along with the message that passengers will be provided with a bird’s eye view of parts of the Mornington Peninsula and Melbourne.
