THE state government is offering $1.4 million in grants to community groups and organisations who help protect Port Phillip. Grants of up to $100,000 are available for large-scale projects which will protect the bay. Up to $25,000 is on offer for smaller projects. Community groups, non-government organisations, research institutes, councils, schools, and youth groups are eligible to apply. Police from the Kingston Tasking Unit seized an allegedly loaded firearm, drugs and cash following an intercept in Patterson Lakes last night. Officers first spotted the car in an underground carpark in Gladesville Boulevard following a report of a suspect vehicle in the area about 7.35pm. The 31-year-old driver of the BMW 320i sedan was intercepted and his vehicle subsequently searched. An allegedly loaded sawn-off rifle, quantity of suspected GHB, alleged methylamphetamine, cash, power tools and drug paraphernalia were all found in the vehicle. DERRIMUT Weelam Gathering Place in Mordialloc has organised free water safety lessons for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The program was run by Mordialloc Life Saving Club lifeguards. Students learned about ocean conditions and water safety. KINGSTON Council is forming a new community panel to consult with in the next two years. Kingston, Represent will consist of 220 people. Business owners, community group founders, and residents will be invited to take part. Panel members will provide feedback through online forums, take part in workshops, and will be paid an allowance for attendance at in-person events. FRANKSTON Council has asked residents to make their priorities known before it forms its 2023/2024 budget. A portal on the Engage Frankston website has now opened which features 12 “budget focus areas”. Submitters can allocate points to the areas that are most important to them.
