THE Mornington Peninsula Triathlon Club is hoping to once again cement itself as one of the leading clubs in Victoria when it comes to junior triathlons. The club, based at Long Island Drive in Frankston, had four members competing in South Australia at the national level earlier this month with MPTC’s triathlon mentor, Luke Burns and some of the club’s up and coming juniors competing at the Glenelg Triathlon on Saturday 3 February. MORE than 400 VAL athletes crowded the Frankston Football Oval on Sunday 14 January for the much-anticipated return of the Frankston Gift. The gift which hadn’t been run for more than six years went off “without a hitch” and was well supported by local runners and little athletes. AFTER narrowly missing out on qualifying for the past two Commonwealth Games, Peninsula Boxer Jason Whateley will join 13 of Australia’s top boxers at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April. BASEBALL pitcher Jackson Boyd, of Langwarrin competed against the “world’s best” at the under-18s Baseball World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada earlier this month. This was Boyd’s first time representing Australia at the World Cup and he helped the side finish just one win shy of playing for a bronze medal.
