PEOPLE experiencing homelessness have been asked to move on from Olivers Hill. Earlier this month, a man sleeping in his car at the base of Olivers Hill posted on the Frankston Noticeboard Facebook page that he and other rough sleepers at the site were being told to vacate by Frankston Council. Last week, council confirmed in a statement that it had “been in discussions with those currently sleeping at the Frankston foreshore boat ramp and have liaised with local homeless support agencies to identify recommendations for alternate accommodation.” “Those agencies, including Launch Housing, have visited the site, engaged with the…

CONSULTATION on new planning controls for the Endeavour Cove site in Patterson Lakes has closed. Kingston Council is drafting new planning controls for the marina land which would give it more control over future developments. Any final decision on changes to the planning controls will be made by the state government’s planning minister. The current planning controls were recently tested at a Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearing. VCAT rejected a proposal for a planned 10-storey building at the site to be used for residential purposes with a reduction in car parking. However, it found that under the current planning…
FORMER Frankston MP Geoff Shaw will lead Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party at next month’s state election. Palmer announced Shaw as the party’s Victorian leader last week. Shaw said at a press conference that he was running for office to remove Premier Daniel Andrews from power. Shaw will stand for the Legislative Council in the Northern Victoria region. He was the member for Frankston between 2010 and 2014. Shaw was elected in 2010 as a Liberal, but ended up finishing his term on the crossbench. In September 2013 he was charged with obtaining financial benefit by deception and one charge…
THE state government will not match the opposition’s pledge to extend the Frankston line to Baxter. Frankston MP Paul Edbrooke told The Times he is concerned that the project could wipe out homes, land, and the historic Frankston Signal Box. “Before anyone decides on a project that potentially requires the bulldozing of hundreds of homes, destruction of ten hectares of Green Wedge land, and the demolition of the 100-year-old Frankston Signal Box, a huge amount of community consultation should take place,” he said. “I have people at my office asking me if their home is going to be bulldozed now.…
A PROPOSAL to build a 10-storey apartment building at the Endeavour Cove precinct in Patterson Lakes has been dealt a blow. The 10-storey development is planned for 64 Pier One Drive. The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal recently considered an application to use the building for residential apartments while reducing car parking requirements at the site. It knocked back the request. The VCAT finding read that under the current planning controls at the site, no permission is required to construct a building. However, VCAT has rejected developer Cavendish Properties’ application for the site to be used for residential apartments. “Use…
