BOXING legend Johnny Famechon has died aged 77. Famechon, a Frankston resident for five decades, was born Jean-Pierre in France. He moved to Australia as a young child with his family and quickly took to boxing, making his pro debut at Festival Hall aged just 16. In the ring, Famechon was a plucky and skilled boxer who fought with heart. He skipped amateur boxing and rose through the ranks quickly after debuting, with his strong defensive style setting him apart from the rest. Famechon’s crowning glory came in 1969. A CONFLICT between two Frankston councillors has been assessed by a councillor conduct panel. Steven Hughes applied for a councillor conduct panel earlier this year, alleging that former mayor Kris Bolam had bullied him. The panel rejected the allegations and dismissed the application. Hughes made nine allegations against Bolam. A NEW shared use path and the refurbishment of a train station building are among the requests Kingston Council will make to the state government when it builds rail over road in Parkdale. Elevated rail will be used to replace the level crossings at Parkers Road and Warrigal Road. Kingston Council has opposed the skyrail solution in the area, but the project looks set to proceed. A NEW 10-storey tower may be built at the controversial Endeavour Cove precinct unless the planning minister intervenes. In September, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal will consider an application for a 10-storey building at 64 Pier One Drive. It will also consider reducing the number of car parking spaces required for the project.
