A DATE has been set for the 2025 federal election. The election will be held on 3 May. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the election date at a press conference last Friday, 28 March. Incumbent MP Jodie Belyea will contest Dunkley for Labor. Former mayor Nathan Conroy is the Liberal candidate. Robert Thurley and Andrew Gatley have declared their intention to run as independents. PLANS to build a new Woolworths in Chelsea Heights have been approved. The Woolworths is planned for 1-23 Wells Road, on the former site of the Mitre 10 building. Plans to build it were previously approved by VCAT despite Kingston Council opposition. THE removal of trees at Groves Reserve in Aspendale has been slammed in Parliament. Multiple coastal banksias were removed last month to make way for level crossing removal works. TOUGHER bail conditions will be imposed on offenders as part of sweeping changes proposed by the state government, but some experts have warned that marginalised communities may be unfairly affected. The state government introduced its bail reform to Parliament last week. It is seeking to amend the Bail Act to remove the principle of “remand as last resort” for youths, and introduce bail offences.
