THE end credits have rolled at council on a plan by Hoyts cinemas in Frankston to sell alcohol in their cinemas. Frankston councillors voted at the 13 August public meeting to issue a planning notice of refusal to the cinema, which was seeking to serve alcohol inside its foyer and auditoriums every day of the week. Under the proposal, G and PG-rated films would have been alcohol-free. THE Chelsea Rotary Club has joined with the Rotary Club of Mt Druitt and a family from the Boronia Rotary Club to make a $36,000 donation towards Australian Rotary Health. The donation was funded in part by the estate of Chelsea Rotary Club’s longest serving member, George Malone. Mr Malone, who passed away on 3 May 2016, left behind money to be donated to Australian Rotary Health, with the hope that the money would be used to fund skin cancer research. DIVISION TWO DROMANA will go into the finals with momentum on their side after claiming a comprehensive win over Rye in their final game of the home and away season. Kingston pokies punters lose $86m A REPORT from Victoria’s peak gambling regulator has revealed that gamblers lost a whopping $86 million on electronic gaming machines in Kingston during the 2017-18 financial year, up more than $3 million on the previous year.
