PILES of rubbish were left festering next to bins at Chelsea Beach last weekend. A hot weekend saw people flock to the beach to enjoy the summer sun. However, on Monday morning residents reported that rubbish left at bins near the beach had not been picked up and had begun to blow away. A BOOK on the history of local racecourses has been published. John Macnaughtan has been working on the book for the last few years. It details the long histories of the racecourses at Mentone, Aspendale, Epsom, and Richfield. Macnaughtan, who also co-authored a book on the Epsom racecourse in 2003, said his latest work was inspired by a lifelong passion for racing. “I’ve always had an interest in racing. A $1 MILLION reward is on offer to anyone who can help convict the person responsible for Mordialloc woman Penny Galanopoulos’ death. On 10 January, 2012, Galanopoulos’ body was pulled from her home on Main Street in Mordialloc after a fire. Investigators later found that she had been killed before the fire was lit. A handwritten letter was delivered to Mordialloc Police Station in 2012 with information relating to the murder. Police believe the letter is authentic, but have not identified its author. THE federal opposition has promised to spend $900 million on the extension of the Frankston rail line towards Baxter if it wins government. Opposition leader Peter Dutton visited Frankston on Friday to make the announcement. The commitment is part of the Liberal Party’s campaign to take the seat of Dunkley off Labor at next month’s by-election.
