VOTERS could be forgiven for thinking the state election campaign between the major parties has not ended eight months after the Andrews Labor government defeated the previous Napthine Coalition government to win power. Labor and Liberal politicians were out in force last week along the Frankston line pushing opposing messages about the separation of level crossings from roadways. Frankston Labor MP Paul Edbrooke joined Acting Premier James Merlino at the Overton Rd, Frankston crossing last Friday morning to blast the Liberals and Greens “who opposed getting rid of these level crossings once and for all”. A crowd of partisan protesters,…

A NEW board at Rossdale Golf Club seems to have driven plans to sell off the club’s Aspendale golf course for residential development into the bunker. Three new Rossdale Golf Club board members – Nick Linford, Geoff Charnley and Tony Mitchem – were elected to the club’s nine-person board late last month. Club general manager Tim Hanton wrote to members last week, on behalf of the board, to advise Rossdale Golf Club has “secured some short term funding via a members loan” and is in negotiations with several banks to secure long term funding “by the end of September”. FRANKSTON MP Paul Edbrooke has welcomed council’s views on how best to redevelop the Frankston train station precinct but says the community and state government will have the final say on the specifics of the $50 million project. The Labor MP is chair of the Frankston Station Precinct Taskforce, set up by the government to hear submissions and suggestions about the project. “As the chair of the taskforce, what I would like to clarify is that the council’s submission for this Andrews government project is just that,” Mr Edbrooke said. “The project is 100 per cent state government funded and…
THE removal of the Tree of Life sculpture from the Cranbourne Rd exit of Peninsula Link has sparked a social media backlash. Drivers, including many who do not usually regard themselves as art lovers, have gone out on a limb and expressed their love for the huge sculpture which has towered over the Cranbourne Rd exit section of the freeway for the past two years. Passers-by noticed workmen pulling the Tree of Life down last week. Thousands took to Facebook to publicly declare their fondness for the sculpture. The unusual looking sculpture was repeatedly described as “beautiful” and many are…
THE F-word was uttered in the council chamber at the latest public council meeting and it wasn’t “Frankston”. Cr Rebekah Spelman let an expletive slip during a debate about relaxing beach curfew regulations for dogs. The councillor immediately apologised for her inadvertent outburst made amid repeated interruptions by some fellow councillors during her speech about the beach curfew. Cr Spelman has proposed a beach curfew for on-leash dogs from 9.30am-7.30pm between 1 December and 31 March during summer months should be eased to 10.30am-7.30pm to allow dog owners to walk their pooches along Frankston beach later in the morning. Councillors…
