FRANKSTON had the fifth highest number of pets surrendered to the RSPCA in Victoria in 2015/16 – a total of 203 cats and dogs according to RSPCA figures. It’s often a sad scenario for the animals which may have just started to feel at home in their new surroundings before getting the old heave-ho. And, usually, it’s not their fault. A CAR being driven along Cranbourne Rd was pelted with a stubby by one of a group of 10 as it turned into James St, 11.50pm, Saturday 3 September. When the 64-year-old driver stopped to confront the thrower, three youths allegedly attacked him, with one hopping into the driver’s seat and stealing the car’s keys before running away and another jumping on the roof. A FRANKSTON teenager was among eight youths arrested on Sunday night, 4 September, as part of Operation Cosmas. The 14-year-old was charged by Northern Metropolitan Regional Crime Squad investigators with theft of a motor vehicle and committing an indictable offence while on bail. He was remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date. The youths’ arrests followed two alleged aggravated burglaries and a carjacking within one hour in the north western suburbs. A WALL of closed-circuit television screens at Frankston police station is part of the latest strategy to fight street crime. The CCTV cameras, capturing footage in high resolution to clearly identify offenders, have been installed in the divisional operation support office to focus in on crime as it happens in the street, shopping centres, train station or foreshore.
