Police presence during holidays

AN increased police presence will be seen during the school holidays as officers from the Kingston police service area implement operation Australis.

Police will target thefts, motor vehicle and bike offences and public order offences as part of the operation.

Local area commander inspector Matthew Mulcahy said the operation would provide a highly visible police presence to enable people to have a safe and enjoyable time during the busy school holiday period.

“During the school holidays, evidence shows that offences increase, including theft of and theft from motor vehicle and shoplifting,’’ said Inspector Mulcahy.

“Our proactive policing unit will be working closely with local business owners to address any security issues and implement crime prevention measures.

“We also know there will be an increase in traffic on our roads so local highway patrol officers will be stepping up patrols.

“Pedestrians are among one of our most vulnerable road users and we’ll be out in force to ensure that everyone can enjoy the holidays safely.

“People can go about their day to day business knowing police are proactively aiming to reduce crime, public order issues and antisocial behaviour in our community.”
