A WEATHERBOARD house in Aspendale was gutted by fire overnight on Wednesday at about 6.30pm.

The unoccupied house, on the corner of Pine Cres and Station St, was described as being “beyond repair” by Detective Senior Sergeant Susannah Hughes, of Moorabbin CIU, who attended the scene.

Rumours of a body inside were unfounded, she said.

Edithvale CFA fought the blaze, which is being regarded as suspicious.

Anyone knowing what, or who, caused the fire should contact police on 9556 6565.
