Police are searching for a heartless driver who left a three-legged dog dying on the road during a hit and run collision in Frankston.
Investigators have been told a 45-year-old man was walking his 11-year-old Jack Russell Chopper along Beach Street towards Cranbourne Road around 6.45pm on 10 May.
As he crossed past an alley, a speeding car entered the alley from Beach Street, narrowly missing the man but hitting the dog in front of his horrified owner.
The driver of the car failed to stop and left the dog lying on the road with critical injuries.
She was taken to a local vet where she was euthanised.
Police are investigating the incident and have released CCTV of the car, a maroon early model Ford Falcon, taken from a nearby bottle shop.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who might have witnessed the incident, or who can identify the car or driver involved, to come forward.
