Major Collision Investigation Group detectives are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was struck by a truck in Langwarrin this morning.

Detectives have been told the 17-year-old was crossing the road at the intersection of Cranbourne-Frankston Road and Long Street when she was hit by a garbage truck about 8.10am.

The Langwarrin teen was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 54-year-old Frankston man, the driver of the truck, is in custody and assisting investigators with their enquiries.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call police.
