A DETERMINED burglar – possibly with green thumbs – stole a 10-metre palm tree from the front yard of a property in Aspendale last week.
Its owner was said to be “staggered” by the brazen theft, which occurred overnight Wednesday 3 August in Station St. He told police there must have been “significant activity” in the street while the tree was being removed because of its size and weight.
Sergeant Leo Russo, of Kingston police, said heavy lifting equipment would have been needed to remove the $4000 tree.
The front fence of the property, which is under construction, was damaged to gain access and truck tyre marks were visible on the roadway.
