THREE people were in a car which allegedly fled police following an incident at a Mornington service station and continued north along Peninsula Link, 2.20am, Monday 7 November.
The hour-long car-and-foot chase, which involved police dogs, began when police tried to pull over a Holden station wagon with stolen number plates at a service station on Racecourse Rd.
Senior Sergeant Phillip Hulley, of Frankston police, said the driver reversed quickly, forcing the police to take “quick evasive action” to avoid being rammed.
The car was driven off at speed on Mornington-Tyabb Rd with police in pursuit, but stopped on the Frankston-Dandenong Rd near the Peninsula Link overpass. A man and a woman ran from the car with several police units and the Dog Squad chasing them on foot. The pair, aged in their 20s, was arrested about 3.20am near Belvedere Reserve in Seaford and was to be interviewed over theft and traffic offences.
The male driver, also in his 20s, of Beaumaris, continued on to Parkdale, dumping the car near Mac Crescent. He was arrested just before 3am and will be charged on summons with driving an unregistered car, theft of number plates, and other traffic offences.
