POLICE say it was “very lucky no one was killed” when a stolen car was driven south on the northbound lanes of Peninsula Link, early Monday 9 January.

The Subaru Impreza, stolen in Cranbourne, was spotted being driven erratically in Quarry Rd, Langwarrin, 4.38am.

Frankston Highway Patrol units tried to intercept the car but backed off when they considered the chase too dangerous.

The car was seen doing several U-turns, including driving north on the freeway’s southbound lanes, at up to 130kph in what police described as heavy traffic.

They monitored the car via CCTV cameras as it continued north on the Frankston freeway and exited at the Chelsea off-ramp.

The car was found burnt out in Clyde North on Wednesday 11 January.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
