TEENAGE car thieves – some as young as 13 – have been arrested by Frankston detectives after more than 10 cars were broken into in Langwarrin last week and a stolen car was driven at a resident.
The teens, riding in a Holden Commodore stolen from outside a Cranbourne house, 1am, Wednesday 11 January, were allegedly involved in a “lengthy high-speed pursuit” with police before escaping and linking up with a stolen Holden utility in Dunsterville Cr, Frankston, soon after.
Detective Senior Constable Richard Thomson said one of the cars was then “driven directly at a resident”, aged 40, who had parked his car nearby and had noticed the young car thieves inside.
Detective Thomson said up to nine young offenders – most still at large – had been identified in relation to the two stolen cars.
He said early on Sunday 15 January, possibly the same young car thieves in a Subaru station wagon stolen from Korumburra, allegedly broke into more than 10 cars to steal small items such as sunglasses, keys, garage remote-control door openers and cash, in various Langwarrin streets.
Detectives early next day arrested the five teenagers, aged 13-17, in Frankston North who they believe were involved in the Dunsterville Cr incident, various car thefts and the thefts from motor cars.
They have been charged with multiple counts of car theft, theft from motor cars, and aggravated burglary and remanded in custody to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
Detective Thomson said the investigations were ongoing. He urges residents whose cars have been robbed to call 9784 5555.
