Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was assaulted during an incident in Frankston last weekend.

The incident occurred outside a licensed premises on the Nepean Highway, near Davey Street, about 12.30am on Saturday, 25 November.

An affray allegedly took place following a verbal altercation between two men and a second group of men.

One of the men in the group, a 34-year-old Doveton man, sustained critical injuries during the incident and was conveyed to hospital.

He remains in hospital.

A 27-year-old Frankston man has been charged with recklessly causing serious injury and bailed to appear at court at a later date.

A second 27-year-old Frankston man was also arrested on the night, however he was released pending further enquiries.

Detectives from Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the incident with assistance from the Homicide Squad.

They are appealing for anyone who witnessed the alleged affray or the events leading up to it to come forward.

It’s believed a number of people were in the vicinity at the time who are yet to make contact with police.

Investigators are also releasing CCTV of three people they are hoping to identify who crossed the road outside the licensed premises just before the assault.

Those people are not involved in the incident but may be able to provide information regarding the affray.
