CHRISTMAS is a time of giving and community groups will benefit from a generous $200,000 gift by the Mordialloc Community Nursing Home committee of management.
Kingston mayor Cr Steve Staikos said the donation will “make a positive difference” in the municipality.
“On behalf of the City of Kingston, and indeed the entire Kingston community, I thank the Mordialloc Community Nursing Home Committee of Management for their very generous support for the Kingston Charitable Fund,” Cr Staikos said.
“This will take our corpus to $1.5million and will allow us to support more worthy activities each year.”
Cr Staikos accepted a $200,000 cheque payable to the Kingston Charitable Fund from former mayor and nursing home committee member Bill Nixon.
The committee is winding up its operations and decided to distribute any excess funds to the fund.
Mercy Health is building a new aged care home in Kingston and Mordialloc Community Nursing Home has transferred its bed licences to the Catholic organisation founded by the Sisters of Mercy.
“We’re pleased that the good work of the Mordialloc Community Nursing Home is felt in our community for decades to come thanks to this generous donation,” Cr Staikos said.
The Kingston Charitable Fund raises money from businesses, residents and philanthropists to invest in the community and annual income earned is distributed via annual community grants.
It is a charitable fund account of the Melbourne Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation established in 1923.
