A MOTORCYCLIST speeding away from Carrum Downs police mounted the kerb and crashed in Frankston North, 5.45pm, Saturday 3 February.

Police said the Seaford man, 43, was riding without number plates when he did a U-turn to avoid a speed control point and sped down a service road.

A police chase was aborted when it was deemed unsafe.

The rider was thrown from the bike, sending his helmet flying, before colliding with a concrete fence and falling injured onto the road.

He was taken to The Alfred hospital with a broken leg and severe grazing to his back and head.

Police said charges are pending.
