A CAR with stolen plates rammed a police car at about 1.45am on Cranbourne Road, Frankston on Friday 13 April.

The vehicle took off at high speed and evaded police who decided not to pursue since it would be too dangerous to public safety.

The same vehicle, a grey silver Holden sedan, was involved in another brief chase when an unmarked police car tried to intercept the car at about 10am on Cranbourne Road on Friday 6 April.

New offences introduced by the state government this month mean anyone who rams or tries to ram a police vehicle can face up to 20 years in jail.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
