A PROMINENT playground at the Frankston Waterfront is getting a $1.25 million makeover for families to enjoy.
Frankston councillors voted behind closed doors after the public council meeting on Monday 23 April to spend the money over two financial years to upgrade the playground near the foreshore, known for its highly-visible “pixie hat” steel cone roofs.
The pixie hats will be refurbished as part of planned works at the playground that will include “demolition of existing aged equipment”.
“The Waterfront Playground is regularly filled with families, popular for its close proximity to the beach, the play experiences, grass areas and barbecue facilities on offer,” the mayor Cr Colin Hampton said. “The new design uses natural components, building on the strengths of our exceptional surrounding environment, with junior and senior play equipment and accessible play opportunities for children of all abilities.”
New sand play zones, ramps, shelter, decks plus swings and slides will be included in the redevelopment.
Construction works are slated to begin in late June and are expected to take about three months.
