SOMERVILLE Highway Patrol police arrested a man after a pursuit in Skye last Saturday night (23 June).

Highway patrol members first spotted a Volkswagens Golf, displaying false number plates, driving erratically on the Western Port Highway at about 11pm.

An attempt was made to intercept the vehicle and it failed to stop before performing a U-turn to travel north.

The vehicle was dumped a short time later in roadworks near Thompsons Road and the offender tried to run off.

A 32-year-old Frankston man was arrested following a short chase.

A search of the allegedly stolen vehicle uncovered an alleged imitation firearm and what is believed to be a small quantity of methyl amphetamine.

The Frankston man, who was also wanted by police on over 20 outstanding warrants, remains in custody.
