FATHER Bob Maguire was the headline act at a Chelsea Rotary Club event on 14 August, as he was made a Paul Harris Fellow for the second time by the club in recognition for his community work.

Pastor Bill Nagy was the second person presented with a fellowship on the night, which was only had 65 previous recipients in the rotary club’s 64 year history.

Chelsea Rotary spokesman Kevin Harrison said the event was a success and that both recipients were worthy.

“We had roughly 90 people in the audience, and most stayed for dinner. When you hear about Father Bob it’s a bit like bees to honey, people flock to see him. I’ve never heard him speak but he was so entertaining,” he said.

“They received the Paul Harris Fellow, which is like our rotary Brownlow Medal. Father Bob does so much good work and so does Pastor Bill Nagy. He does so much to help people in need, like the homeless. He goes around and does his best, he’s an amazing man.

“To receive this medal you have to do lots of good in our community, it’s for extra special people. It’s for those who help the needy in our community over a long period of time.

“It was a good showcase of us and our rotary club. There were so many people in the room in one night listening to these wonderful people talk about the extreme need for help within our own community.”

Father Bob received his second Paul Harris Fellowship, with the award marked by a sapphire.

“This was his second time receiving the medal, it was another rotary club that gave his first one to him. The first is a badge you wear and a medallion, and the second has a sapphire,” Mr Harrison said.
