CARRUM lifesavers welcomed a promise from the state government that will see them receive $1.5 million in funding if Labor is successful in the November election.

The money will go towards the expansion of the lifesavers’ existing clubhouse, which currently stands on the original dimensions laid out for the building during the 1950s.

“Lifesavers in Carrum will get the facilities they need to keep the community safe with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to expand their lifesaving clubhouse,” Carrum MP Sonya Kilkenny said.

“Only Labor will make sure our lifesavers have the modern facilities they need, with The clubhouse is no longer appropriate for a growing club that should be able to provide safety to the Carrum community.

“This project will give faster access to the beach for lifesavers from the observation tower, increase community amenity and facilities and provide the club with enough on-site storage space for the first time.”

Deputy Premier and emergency services minister James Merlino MP said “our lifesavers protect the Carrum community, and only Labor will make sure they have the facilities and equipment they need to keep themselves and the community safe.”
