THE Blessing of the Fleet for emergency services’ search and rescue vehicles has been held at Frankston Pier.
The Blessing of the Fleet is an annual event that recognises the work of maritime emergency services on the water, including the volunteer Coast Guard, volunteer Marine Rescue, Victoria Water Police, Life Saving Victoria, and Victoria State Emergency Service.
The event kicked off at St Paul’s Church before moving to the pier, when the craft were blessed prior to the beginning of their duties during boat season.
The Blessing of the Fleet has been hosted by the Frankston Coast Guard for more than 40 years.
“The Blessing of the Fleet is a symbol of support for our brave volunteers who take to the water to ensure that everyone remains safe,” Carrum MP Sonya Kilkenny said at the event.
“Our volunteer emergency services perform an outstanding and vital job, day by day, year by year, in ensuring our waterways are a less dangerous place to be.
“Marine Search and Rescue volunteers are currently receiving new vessels and engines, as part of the Victorian government’s record $11.34 million investment in the sector. Through this program, the government is providing the Frankston Coast Guard with funding for a new vessel as well as engine upgrades.”
