Police have arrested a 25-year-old Wodonga man in relation to an incident in Mentone yesterday.

It is alleged a female was assaulted and a 10-month-old child was taken from a Mentone address about midday.

A pursuit was initiated across a number of south eastern suburbs before it was terminated for safety reasons.

The man was arrested at a service station on Hume Highway near Donnybrook about 6pm by members of the Special Operations Group.

The baby was located and did not require any medical treatment.

Two other males were taken into custody at the service station, a 20-year-old Skye man and a 22-year-old Langwarrin man who are currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The 25-year-old has been taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and is yet to be interviewed.

Two police members were injured as a result of the incident and are currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries in hospital.
