A DOG has had a lucky escape after falling from a stolen ute in Mentone.

Medusa, a border collie, escaped from the car shortly after it was stolen from Cedar Street at around 9.30am, Sunday 24 February.

The owner of the ute told The News that his dog Medusa was not injured but the vehicle was still missing.

Mordialloc police are investigating the theft of the silver Holden Colorado utility.

Police said “more than $3000 of tools” were on board the vehicle “as well as a fridge.”

Police said the owner had left the vehicle for around five minutes and returned to find it had been stolen.

The ute, registration number 1MQ 8LB was last spotted at the corner of Derwent Street and Glenelg Road.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses and are appealing for dash-cam footage from anyone who may have been travelling in the area at the time.
