A COMMUNITY hall on Whatley Street went up in flames in the early hours of 5 May.

Emergency services were called out to the blaze at around 3.15am. The fire is being treated as suspicious by police.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said that surrounding homes were evacuated “as a precaution due to flying embers” and the street was closed for several hours.

Police said they did not believe anyone was in the building.
