A MAN who crashed into a tree in Parkdale has allegedly dropped numerous stolen items while fleeing from police.

Mordialloc police responded to calls that a car had crashed on the Nepean Highway on 5 October. Police found the allegedly stolen car on nearby Fifth Avenue, and pursued the driver on foot.

Police followed a trail of stolen items and arrested the alleged offender 500 metres from the car. The 25-year-old Bentleigh man was charged with multiple counts of theft, drug possession, weapon possession, bail and driving offences.

Police searched the stolen car and allegedly found drugs, weapons, stolen number plates and dozens of stolen power tools.

The man was remanded into custody and police are working to reunite victims with their stolen property.
