THE number of positive coronavirus cases in Frankston has doubled in the space of a week.

There have been 31 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Frankston local government area as of 2 April. The total stood at 15 on 27 March.

In neighbouring municipalities, Mornington Peninsula Shire now has 49 recorded cases. They are the equal second worst hit area in the state. The Kingston area has 16 positive cases, and the City of Casey has 31.

The statistics of positive COVID-19 cases have been provided by the Department of Health and Human Services.

There are 1036 positive coronavirus cases across Victoria. Six people in the state have died.
