NEARLY a third of new COVID-19 cases recorded in Victoria on Sunday were from Frankston.
There were 16 new cases of coronavirus found statewide on 27 September. Frankston residents made up five of those.
All new cases found in the Frankston area were within the postcode 3199. Across the whole municipality, there are nine active cases of COVID-19 as of 27 September.
One of those positive tests was linked to the Baptcare Peninsula View aged care site in Frankston South. Baptcare has confirmed that a contractor who last worked at the site on 23 September had tested positive.
“Out of an abundance of caution, all residents are remaining in their room at Peninsula View. All staff will wear personal protective equipment, masks, gloves, goggles, and gowns,” a Baptcare statement read.
“All staff who have been in close contact with the impacted contractor are in self-isolation. The staff members are isolating at home and will only return when medically cleared.”
The number of active cases in the Frankston area dipped below 10 for the first time in nearly two months on 15 September. Since then the number of active cases among residents dropped to three before rising again.
At midnight on 27 September metropolitan Melbourne moved into the second step of COVID-19 restrictions, with a number of rules relaxed.
The curfew has now been lifted, but the four permitted reasons to leave home still remain.
Plans are in place to have VCE and primary school students return to classrooms for Term 4, while child care centres have also reopened for all children.
The 5km radius restriction still applies.
The fine for breaking the gathering rules has been increased to around $5000.
There are three active COVID-19 cases in the neighbouring Kingston local government area, and one on the Mornington Peninsula.
