NOT even international travel restrictions will stop Santa from coming to town this year.
Although the Kingston Carols by Candlelight have been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will still be plenty to do to get into the Christmas spirit.
Activities and competitions are being prepared for this year’s local Christmas celebrations. The Kingston Tinsel Trail is being set up this year, with plenty to do all across the local area.
Council CEO Julie Reid said “Kingston’s Tinsel Trail is a terrific opportunity to support local businesses as they rebuild after a challenging year.”
“Featuring pop-up carollers, Santa on a segway, neon installations and the distribution of shop local bags filled with trader incentives, there will be plenty of opportunities to celebrate the festive season while shopping local for loved ones,” she said.
“Little ones will be able to immerse themselves in the magic of Christmas by touring the city’s decorated activity centres finding Holly, our festivals and events mascot, in local shops or entering the colouring competition via one of the specially-marked Santa’s mailboxes located in participating traders. Tinsel Trail will also feature virtual activities including Christmas-themed storytime sessions hosted by Kingston Libraries and fun workshops to participate in.
“Kingston businesses have been hard hit by the lockdowns and retail restrictions in recent months and we hope the Tinsel Trail will help encourage our community to shop locally and support our traders.”
