Police have been told the victim boarded the city bound train at Frankston on Sunday 28 March, before he was approached by another man, about 1.50am.
The 51-year-old victim was then assaulted by the other commuter while the train was in motion before getting off the train at Kananook railway station.
As a result of the unprovoked attack, the victim received serious facial injuries that were treated in hospital.

A lot of creeps on the Frankston line. PSO’s hang around the stations and not on the trains where they should also be.
