THE playground at Peter Scullin Reserve in Mordialloc has closed.

Council has shut the playground down indefinitely. Salty air has been blamed for ongoing corrosion, which has caused structural decline.

In a statement on social media Kingston Council said sorry for closing the play set. “Due to safety concerns, we’ve made the tough decision to close the much-loved Peter Scullin Reserve Playground until further notice,” it said. “We apologise for the inconvenience, however the safety of our community is our top priority.”

In February, Kingston Council announced that the reserve would be receiving a “facelift”, and opened consultation on what the redevelopment should look like.

“As part of the redevelopment we’d like to create an inclusive playspace for a wide range of age groups with both traditional play equipment combined with natural elements,” the mayor Steve Staikos said. “But it’s really up to the community to tell us what they want and how they would like to see the area enhanced, to ensure our plans meet the needs of our community.”
