THE Frankston Arts Centre is accepting submissions for its yearly open exhibition competition.

Artists who submit their work into the competition will be in the running to win $1000 in prize money. The Arts Centre will host an exhibition and opening event for the winning artist next year.

The theme of this year’s event is “Belonging”. Works entered into the competition must align with that theme.

The winner of last year’s open exhibition competition was Ryan Lee. He submitted a video artwork titled Wonnarua. Judge Simon Lawrie said that the piece “captures well how things change at different speeds and often out of step with each other – while threatened by the industrial exploitation of traditional lands by non-Indigenous inhabitants, the cultural identity of the Wonnarua Nation remains strong. This is a powerful and sensitive meditation on two seemingly irreconcilable approaches to land and country.”

Submissions close on 10 July. Works submitted to the competition will be displayed at the open exhibition at Cube 37 between 28 July and 25 August.

A $16 fee is charged to entrants. To apply visit artscentre.frankston.vic.gov.au/Whats-On/Art-Exhibitions/FAC-Open-Exhibition
