THE work of a Seaford artist is being displayed in Canberra after being selected as one of the best entrants into the Darling Portraiture Prize.

Tony Sowersby was named a finalist for the prize after submitting his painting Sabine Desrondaux – Woman of Letters. The painting is of a Frankston postie.

Sowersby submitted his painting into the Archibald Prize as well. “The prize rules state it should be a portrait of a woman of letters (…) so I did one of my friend who is a postie. It is a tribute to the workers who provide essential services especially in lockdown. It is acrylics on linen,” he said.

His work will be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra until October.
