SOUTH East Water is proudly supporting National Tree Day at Edithvale Wetlands.
National Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree planting event, which is a call to action for people to get their hands dirty and give back to the community.
The event organised by the Chelsea District Lions Club is taking place thanks to a South East Water Community Grant, which has gone towards buying the plants for the day. Over 900 native indigenous trees will be planted on the day and all volunteers are welcome.
The annual South East Water Community Grants program is part of a customer commitment to support the community and protect the environment.
South East Water Managing Director, Lara Olsen said our community grants are all about helping local groups who are supporting the community in areas of affordability, environment, health and water literacy.
“The Edithvale-Seaford wetlands are internationally recognised for their importance, home to a range of plants and wildlife but also a highly used and well-loved open space for the community. Events like this are a great way to get involved in your community, meet new people and get outdoors and do something positive for the environment.
“Organisations like the Chelsea Lions Club do amazing work in our community. We’re excited to see what projects across our service region can achieve after being awarded a South East Water Community Grant and the benefits they’ll bring to our customers” added Ms Olsen.
Ann Eldridge, National Coordinator Membership, Lions Clubs Australia said that Lions Clubs International has five major service pillars, one of those being the environment.
“The provision of the grant that South East Water has provided to us, assists Lions to help the local and global community.
“We are so pleased that Chelsea District Lions Club is involved with National Tree Planting Day and enjoys the co-ordinated partnership between Kingston Council, South East Water and Lions Clubs, who together, continue to support our local community where it is needed” added Ann.
