Kingston Tasking Unit officers have arrested two men and seized around 907,000 illegal cigarettes with an estimated value of approximately $1,026,000.

On 2 September at approximately 5.30pm, while conducting a regular patrol of the area, police noticed a truck parked in a carpark along Boundary Road, Dingley and observed two males acting suspiciously.

The two men allegedly provided conflicting stories to officers, after which police obtained consent from the owner of the truck to conduct a search where police allegedly uncovered the large quantity of illegal cigarettes.

A 40-year-old Mitcham man and a 32-year-old man from Hurstville in NSW were both arrested at the scene and later charged with negligently dealing with the proceeds of crime and possessing tobacco products with the intent of defrauding revenue of the commonwealth.

Both men have been bailed to appear before the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 24 November.
