Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance after power tools were stolen during a burglary in Carrum Downs yesterday.

Police have been told an unknown man attended a house on Dion Drive and broke into a rear shed about 1pm.

Once inside the shed, the thief stole a number of power tools worth $1000.

The offender is described as being aged in his 50s with a moustache and was wearing reading glasses.

He was wearing a blue baseball cap, grey hooded jumper, dark blue pants and brown shoes.

Investigators have released an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

Anyone who recognises the man or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
