THIS week marks the beginning of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
A roller derby event and a webinar on respect in sport featuring an AFL player headline the 16 days of activism. The campaign starts 25 November.
Kingston Council is organising events for the 16 days. The mayor Hadi Saab said “everyone has the right to feel safe, equal and respected. However, gender-based violence is unfortunately still perpetrated against women and girls at overwhelming and disproportionate rates, including in the home.”
“We all have a role to play in creating a future that is free from violence. Kingston is proud to be supporting the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence through ongoing advocacy and taking practical steps to make a real difference.” he said.
The roller derby exhibition match between Kingston City Rollers and Westside takes place at 2pm on 3 December, Springers Leisure Centre.
The “equality and respect in sport” webinar, held on 7 December, will feature AFL player Ben Brown, gender equality advocate Hester Brown, roller derby world champion Lauren Foote, and cricket commentator Mel Jones.
