A GROUP of passionate beachgoers born around the world have formed the latest batch of lifesavers with the Bonbeach Life Saving Club.
The club’s December training brought together nine young people born overseas who now live locally. The lifesavers-in-training, aged between 16 and 20, were born across Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Vietnam, and Afghanistan.
Huy Vu, Hussain Sultani, Mohammad Ali Jamali, Faraz Faiz, Baqir Karimi, Safa Rafat, Parwana Tanha, Jayden McEwan, and Harrish Gobinath completed their training last month.
Life Saving Victoria diversity and inclusion coordinator Ramzi Hussaini said that Bonbeach Life Saving Club is a leader in the diversity space. “Life Saving Victoria welcomes these nine young people who completed their training as the state newest lifesavers – charged with keeping the community safe at Bonbeach Lifesaving Club,” Hussaini said. “It is a testament to these young people that they have chosen to give back to the community that they are now proud to call home. They have done themselves and their communities proud.
“We would love to see as many new Victorians as possible join the fold as lifesavers. These nine young people who have completed their training to become Victoria’s newest lifesavers are courageously leading the way to make that happen. Bonbeach Life Saving Club is a leading lifesaving club in the state in training diverse young lifesavers, having done so for nearly ten years. Life Saving Victoria is proud to work with a club that is doing such amazing work for the local community.”
