KALA Petronijevic has been named the 2024 Kingston Young Citizen of the Year. Petronijevic lives with severe vision impairment. She has introduced a blind tennis program to Cheltenham to bring together other people living with impaired vision.

The award was handed out at an event last week. At the same event the Dingley Venturers Group was named the Young Community Group of the Year. The Dingley Venturers Unit mentors younger scouts, volunteers at ANZAC Day services, and conducts park cleanups. 80 per cent of its members are pursuing the Queen’s Scout Award.

Kingston mayor Jenna Davey-Burns said the awards “are a wonderful celebration of the talents and achievements of our young people in Kingston.” “We are really lucky to have so many young people in Kingston taking such an active role in our community and we’re proud to host this event to shine a light on their positive contributions,” she said. “Their stories as young leaders are inspiring as they drive positive change across our city, and I can’t wait to follow their journeys moving forward. They are going to achieve great things.”
