3G NETWORKS across Australia will shut off this week.
From 28 October, Telstra and Optus will switch off their 3G networks. Phones which are only compatible with the 3G network will no longer be able to make calls. The switch may affect calls to emergency services. Phones using 3G will not be able to contact 000.

Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association CEO Louise Hyland said the change will mean more reliable 4G and 5G services. “Fast and reliable mobile network connectivity is critical for Australians and for our economy. The 3G network currently uses up spectrum that could be better served providing more efficient 4G and 5G, which is why this switchover is important,” she said. “With less than a week to go before Telstra and Optus switch off their 3G networks on 28 October, we are urging everyone to check your tech to see if their device will be impacted and, if they are still concerned, to speak to their service provider.”

To check if your device is affected visit www.3Gclosure.com.au.
