MEMBERS of Parkdale Tennis Club have been saving up for clubroom upgrades, raising nearly $500 by collecting drink bottles and cans for the Container Deposit Scheme.
The club has used the money to purchase and install recycled plastic seating to replace its worn-out seating around the courts.
Parkdale Tennis Club digital co-ordinator Carolyn Watters said she used the club website and social media to encourage members to take part in the Container Deposit Scheme drive.“The scheme helps offset costs the club would normally need to budget for separately,” she said.
“For smaller clubs like ours, that makes a real difference. The bonus is that members can actually see where their containers have gone.”
Since the launch of Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme in 2023, more than two billion cans and bottles have been returned. Each return is worth 10 cents. To find a container refund point visit cdsvic.org.au
