NEPEAN School in Seaford is celebrating a remarkable milestone this year, marking its 100th birthday.
The specialist school for children living with disability first opened its doors in March of 1926. The school hosted a celebration earlier this month to mark the milestone.
Nepean School school council president Maya Pinn was among the speakers on the day. She said the school has helped her son “absolutely thrive in his confidence, his communication, and his independence in ways I didn’t even know were possible”.
“Nepean School recently celebrated an incredible milestone, marking 100 years of supporting children and young people with physical disabilities and complex health needs. As one of only four specialist schools in Victoria dedicated to students with physical disabilities, Nepean has played an important role in the lives of generations of families across the state,” Pinn said. “For 100 years, the school has provided not only education, but also opportunity, therapy support, connection, and a place where students are empowered to thrive in an environment designed to meet their individual needs and celebrate their abilities.
“The milestone is a testament to the dedication of the staff, families, and wider community who have shaped Nepean School’s legacy over generations, while also looking ahead to the future and the continued commitment to supporting every student to reach their full potential.”
