ASSUMPTION Primary School student Cleo Kapogiannatos has been named Kingston’s junior mayor for 2026/2027.
The junior mayor is set to accompany the mayor Georgina Oxley at upcoming council events. Cr Oxley said the junior mayor program “gives students the opportunity to build leadership and public speaking skills, learn more about local government and democracy, and most importantly know that their ideas and perspectives matter.”
“We are proud to continue supporting programs like this that encourage young people to get involved in their community and help shape the future of Kingston,” Cr Oxley said. “One of the best parts of this event is seeing the confidence, creativity and passion our young people bring when talking about issues that matter to them. Our junior mayor and junior councillors represent the next generation of community leaders and it’s incredibly encouraging to see how engaged and thoughtful they are about Kingston’s future.”
Kapogiannatos is joined on the junior council by Tyler Beed from Patterson Lakes Primary School, Xavier Fernandez from Kingswood Primary School, Valeria Doan from St John Vianney’s Primary School, Noah Bertschik from St Patrick’s Primary School, Eve Partridge from Moorabbin Primary School, Ivy Lukic from Chelsea Heights Primary School, Naveen Seneviratne from Parkdale Primary School, Andrew Uyanna from Edithvale Primary School, Lenny McNaughton from Aspendale Primary School, and Ivy Quinn from Carrum Primary School.
